Tar ponds cleanup seen as revenue maker
SYDNEY - Members of the junior chamber of commerce say the tar ponds cleanup can
provide substantial revenue for local workers and it's up to the island's
elected leaders to ensure that happens. "We want to see local people working and opportunities for local business
spin-offs," said Shawn Green, president of the junior chamber of commerce for
the Sydney area. The group says that the tar ponds cleanup has the potential to generate up to a
billion dollars in incremental income in the area and an action plan is needed.
Mr. Green says he expects to meet with the three levels of government later
this week.
