New Bike Lane for Sydney
By Tom Ayers
SYDNEY - A new bike lane has opened along the Sydney port access road.
The 1.5-metre paved shoulder runs 2.5 kilometres between Lingan Road and Garth Wilson Avenue, near the Home Depot.
The project, built under the Cape Breton Regional Municipality's active transportation plan, includes a loop that allows cyclists to cross railway tracks at a safe angle.
The lane links the community of Whitney Pier and Open Hearth Park at the former tar ponds site to the commercial area of Grand Lake Road. It will eventually provide a link to the proposed Grand Lake Road multi-use path, which will connect Mayflower Mall to Cape Breton University.
