Sierra Club of Canada News Release

Sydney, NS: Tuesday, January 13, 2004

With the tragic death of Larry Nixon the environmental movement in Cape Breton has lost a strong voice for protecting human health in our community. Larry was one of the founding members of the Peoples Health Commission and was committed to making our community a safer place by cleaning up Canada’s worst toxic waste site.

We would like to thank him for all his work and send our sincere condolences to his family. He will continue to be an inspiration to all who continue to work to protect human health and the safe cleanup of the contamination in our community. As an immigrant to our community he recognized the risks we live with and committed himself to finding safe and equitable solutions to the problems we too often overlook.
