On a similar night not so long ago....One year ago to the day again...we the residents of Frederick Street were awaiting for results of the seeps that were found . Here we go again waiting for results. We wait with held breaths, wondering is this going to be the science that will finally prove our case. You have to remember the government keeps saying, "We need more science". Not to mention that study after study shows just how contaminated our properties are. Studies showing that yes, we are dying faster here in Sydney. And we are dying of very painful diseases!!

So here we are a year later................still waiting..............waiting. Waiting for our government to do the right thing.

We now have JAG backing us! They have committed to us. They are saying come on lets do the right thing. The government partners were at the table when the motions were passed to do something for the residents of Frederick Street. . What is the government doing?

The residents of Frederick Street have been excluded from the rules!! The rules you say? Yes, the CCME guidelines (rules), the Environmental laws, and the right to life. CCME were put in place to protect humans from toxic chemicals. If you remember all our tests came back well over the guidelines. And the Environmental laws:

Has the government forgotten this?

The precautionary principle will be used in decision making so that where there are threats of serious or irreversible damage, the lack of full scientific certainty shall not be used as a reason for postponing measures to prevent environmental degradation. What is an adverse effect ?

It means an effect that impairs or damages the environment, including an adverse effect respecting the health of humans or the reasonable enjoyment of life or property.

We have all been hurt physiologically, economically, socially, and permanently by the actions of the Federal and Provincial Government. These are the direct actions of the Federal and Provincial Government. Direct actions of ignorance.

We have been patient for one year! It's time now for the government to do the right thing. It's time!!

Sincerely,
Juanita McKenzie
